Corridoor…

No that’s not a typo! I’ve spent the last few days sorting out the main corridor in the building (the one at leads to the toilets, party room, storage rooms and all the other future public spaces) and as I alluded to in my last mini-blog, seeing it half completed has brought home just how many…

Toilet humour…

I’ve not made any mini-blog posts for a while because I’ve spent the last week constantly in and out of the toilet. The good news: I didn’t have a dodgy stomach! The bad news: (for me anyway), I’ve spent over a week, and more hours than I care to mention, on my own in the…

Progress report…

It’s now 4 weeks since we got the keys to the building, with another 7 weeks before we open, so it seemed a good time to post a general update on how things are going. The panic hasn’t set in…just yet!   The main room is almost completed and the play equipment frame is being installed…

Face Painting…

…One day we’ll no doubt have face painting at The Square but on this occasion my blog title refers to facing it…every day! It seems like I’ve been painting for an age. It’s a time-consuming job at the best of times of course (at least it is if you want to do it right) but…

Let there be light!

We’ve finally reached the stage of having some proper light in the main room, although the electrician still has a lot to do. Ironically, he got the new lights switched on almost at the same time as I painted the last brushstroke of the main room colours…should have really planned a little better to get the lights…

Windows Update…

No, not quite THAT Windows update, although the result was just as frustrating! You see, our building has a lot of windows. And when I say a lot, well, I really do mean a LOT. But because we’re overlooked by other buildings and a public footpath we wanted some form of privacy that still let in light, but…

A night on the tiles…

and a full day…and a few more days and nights too! Today I started on the ceilings. They need a lot of love and affection to bring them back into good condition and get all the lighting in the right place before new LED units are installed. The section you can see in the photo is…

Finally achieved something!

After months of planning, negotiating, discussing, debating and many a sleepless night thinking, I finally managed to achieve something on site that put us a small step closer to completion. The main room is split into two via four large wall openings, but there were another two hidden in the structure (one boarded over and one with a window installed)…

First day on site!

We finally got the keys late on Friday night but due to other work commitments, I couldn’t actually start on site until Monday. And what a first day it was! You never really expect to get much done on the first day, as there’s so much to familiarise yourself with, and especially in a building…

Why “The Square”?

We’ve been asked this question more than any other but there’s no trick, it really is as simple as it sounds! To remove any doubt, we picked ‘The Square’ for the following reasons: The building is a large square, with a square central courtyard, so the name is relevant for the physical space. Soft play…
