The Square opened for the first time on Monday 9th May 2016. We wanted to fill a gap in Wells, which for far too long had almost no facilities for young children. We’re sited on a main road, within easy access from all routes and very easy to find. We’re also a very friendly team and like to think you’ll be pleasantly surprised, whether you’re a hardened indoor play veteran or this is your very first visit!
The owner, Steve, is a father himself and wanted to create the sort of play centre that he’d love to visit with his own children. His whole ethos was to turn the indoor play model on its head, rather than creating a business focused on children, in which the adults were often a secondary consideration, he wanted to create a great café that adults enjoyed visiting as a place in itself, but which also happened to have fantastic, safe play spaces for their children. We hope you agree that’s what he’s achieved.
Since our first year we have continued to expand, opening an outside summer courtyard in Autumn 2016 (which includes extra seating and a bouncy castle), moving our party room into a much bigger space early summer 2017, installing a new assault course play area in the autumn of 2017, opening a dedicated baby sensory room in the Spring of 2018, totally refurbishing the whole frontage in Winter 2018 (so it now looks far more like a play centre than a tax office!), opening a new ‘padded cabin’ (enclosed bouncy space) in July 2019 and an interactive projector room in August 2019. And we still have a few more spaces to develop if needed 🙂
Come inside and see for yourself what a great local play centre should look like…
Since reopening from the long pandemic lockdown there are only 3 of us, so you should always see a face that you recognise on every visit. But who wants to see boring adult photos; this is all of us, from way back when we were all a good age for visiting The Square rather than working here*
*Some way further back than others!!
